I think this movie was made before Ron Howard played the role of "Opie Taylor" on the Andy Griffith Show, regardless, he is ADORABLE in this movie. He plays the role very well as a little boy growing up without a mother as he tries to fix his father up with dates. It like an earlier version of Sleepless in Seattle. Its a good wholesome "family" movie to watch.

If you are reading this, you are probably already a fan of the Courtship of Eddies Father, either the movie or TV series or both. This is a great movie of the 60s: supper clubs, jazz clubs, dates when the men wore suits and the women dressed up and looked fabulous.
I particularly enjoyed the commentary track with Shirley Jones, Dina Merrill and Stella Stevens. From their reflection on the movie, the commentary is fairly recent and it makes for a wonderful flash back 40 years to the making of the Eddies Father.

This being one of my two favorite shows from this era (the other being Eight is Enough), I wish that the powers that be would release the TV series on DVD. I would purchase it immediately. No questions asked. What a wonderful, sweet series this was. I noticed that people were requesting that the distributors produce the Eight is Enough series on DVD in the Comments section when I tried to locate it as well, which gave me the idea to do that for this series here. The intriguing and imaginative plot, the excellent acting, and the tragedy of this TV adaptation of Bruce Jay Friedmans play not being available for todays audiences have been repeated by several reviewers. They are, in my opinion, all correct in their views about this wonderful, thought-provoking "black" comedy.

I know that at least one reviewer lamented the fact that many reviewers seemed to talk more about the "nudity" than the merits of the play/movie. I have not found this to be so. And, of course, in the version shown in the United States, there is not really any frontal nudity. However, I was fortunate enough to see Ms. Perrine not only when she was performing in Las Vegas, but in the uncut version of "Steambath" that was shown in the UK and on Armed Forces Television throughout the European continent in 1973.

Quite some time ago, after months and months of searching, I finally found the censored American version of "Steambath" on VHS at kultur dot com. I could not find it at a site mentioned by another reviewer. Kultur now has this on DVD as of May 2007. I do not know whether it was in response to the requests here and elsewhere to re-release this fine film, but it is now available on sites such as this one, Amazon dot com, and for rental on netflix dot com.

If ANYONE knows where I can obtain the 1973 UNCUT version shown outside the US, would you please contact me (see my review on imdb dot com, or just write to ww1965 at gmail dot com)?

Maybe its just because Im a guy, but I think that the uncut version should be made available today because it adds to the impact of this insightful character study of the various personalities of the men (and one woman) who are "trapped" in the steam bath room. The uncut version is still very mild compared to what is available today, and it was all done very innocently. However, you knew that you were in for something unusual when Ms. Perrine suddenly appeared in what was apparently a mens shower/steam bath facility and dropped her towel! (You only see her from the waist up whenever she is turned toward you, of course. After all, this was 1973. Nevertheless, Ms. Perrine was facing the camera enough in the uncut version to make a lasting impression on this reviewer!)

A chance to see Bill Bixby in a real change-of-pace role, playing a recently deceased man who slowly comes to realize that his life, to which he is so anxious to return, was not all it had cracked up to be. Bixby is thoroughly believable in his performance, by changes funny, anxious, fearful, supportive, intense, and even ever-so-slightly sleazy. Hes the perfect choice to head this cast in a wildly offbeat story of a group of people who, having died, find themselves in a steambath on their way to their final destination, seeking questions from the Puerto Rican attendant - who just happens to be God.

DVD is Censored

This is a program that I saw on Public Television back in the early 70s.
When I found out this was on DVD I couldnt wait to see it again. I have to say I was a bit dissapointed to notice that some scenes were altered from the original broadcast. Call me a purist, but I love to see things the way they were originaly broadcast.

This program originally had nudity, in particular Valerie Perrines shower scene. In the original you can see her breasts, in this version you do not. There is a black bar that appeares on the bottom of the screen during the front shot of the shower scene, blocking out the nudity.(There is also another scene with her that is cut)

Now this is not that big a deal as far as the story goes, you can still enjoy the play, and it is a good one. I gave this 3 stars because of the censorship on the DVD version. What made this controversial as far as television was concerned at the time was the language and nudity.

It seems that nowadays just because its on DVD does not mean its complete.

I remember the first time I saw this, back in 1973. It was cutting edge content for that era and Valerie Perrines shower scene added to the controversy, but it was funny and entertaining. Now, if the PBS series that spun out from it would just be released, I would glady add that to my collection.

Bill Bixby proves to be a real talent in this truly funny play in which a steambath is a sort of waiting place between death and the afterlife, and God is a Puerto Rican towel boy. The only negative to this work is that it calls for some special effects that really are pretty limp technologically - but pretty fair for its day. Valerie Perrine is actually a pretty good actress in this one.

A pure and simple review. The two previous seasons of My Favorite Martian were done by a company that has not followed through to the end of the series before (i.e. The Lone Ranger color years, anyone?). Im glad this Australian company finished out the rest of My Favorite Martian and had extras, too. A fun show. Like I said, a pure and simple review.

This T.V. show was always a favorite of mine. I waited a long time for the third season. I was greatly dissapointed when I learned I would have to send away to Australia for the third season. I ended up not getting it because of that reason. I am so glad Amazon now offers it.

More than anything, seeing this set finally become available is great news for those of us who bought the first two seasons of "My Favorite Martian" from Rhino several years back...and then waited, and waited, and waited for the third (and final) season that never came.

The first thing to know about this set is that it doesnt come from Rhino, but rather from an Australian company, Umbrella. When it became clear that Rhino was never going to release the final season, Jack Chertok Productions (producer and owner of the the show) worked with Umbrella to produce and release this set in Australia -- but in a format that could be re-imported into the US. As a result, we not only get all 32 episodes of the final season, but we get to see the extras that Rhino didnt see fit to include in the previous seasons.

For those who enjoyed this show (and probably already own the first two seasons), this set is well worth buying. Its a better quality set by far than what Rhino released (no syndication edits or jumpy video) and has some nice extras. And most importantly, its fun to watch -- theres an innocensce behind the humor in "My Favorite Martian" that is nice to see, and a pleasant change from the mean-spiritness of so many newer programs.

I have a strong affinity for Banner and the Hulk and I am looking forward to season 3. Hope it comes out real soon, like later this spring or early this summer. I have some experience with being on the road, looking for a place to work and a secure place to sleep. Its not easy and it isnt getting easier. Staying out of jail is much more difficult today than it was 30 years ago. Cops everywhere will shake you down and try to plug something on you if youre alone on the road.

Walking alone is becoming more dangerous all the time, at least in the suburbs and the country. I suppose thats one of the reasons why I like series like the Incredible Hulk and the Fugitive (David Jansen) because I experienced some of that kind of freedom for a short time in the 80s and I know that it is fading away. Of course, being a fugitive on the run from nosey reporters and the law can be a problem, but at the same time, being on the open road going across the country without a true, secure destination is also the epitome of American freedom.

Believe it or not, I have some envy for Banner, despite his problem with the Hulk. I envy him because, while he is compelled by his situation to run from the NR reporter Jack McGee, he is also a very capable professional man with some very helpful skills, the kind that not only make friends but also impress the ladies. Thats more than I had when i was out there in the 80s. If it wasnt the Hulk getting him out of a dangerous situation, it was his professional skills.

Season two had somewhat of a slow start, imo, after the very romantic episode, Married, in Hawaii with Caroline (Mariette Hartley). The episodes following were okay, but I didnt really care for the main themes all that much. They were basically just situations where Banner took some low-profile jobs and got messed up with the local dunderheads. If I found myself in such situations Id just get the hell out of town asap, but thats me. Banner, ot-oh, had to play the good samaritin and get in over his head.

A Child in Need and Alice in Disco Land were okay, but obviously more human interest social statements than anything else, with the Hulk simply filling in the action scenes. Obviously, both wife and child-battering husbands and teenage alcoholism were becoming much more open for discussion at that time. Unfortunately, it was about 5 years too late for my family. Of course, the federally-mandated Christian-right solution was to blame it all on marijuana -- go figure!

The season got much more interesting after Stop the Press, an episode in which he ran into trouble while working as a dishwasher in a Chicago restaurant, with a dirty reporter working for the National Register, whose desk was just an elbow away from Jack McGee. Imo, this was one of the best episodes of the season, and the season on the whole improved quite a lot after it. Escape from Los Santos was okay, especially the scene where he broke out of the local jail after the crooked cops nailed him to implicate him for murder. Its always nice to see the Hulk get him out of the really tight situations. I enjoyed A Solitary Place, probably more than most, because I tried to live like that once and it brought back some memories.

Other episodes of this season that I enjoyed were The Haunted, about a schizoid girl that employs Banner to help her make a move back to her late folks country estate, treading upon deep, dangerous roots from her forgotten past Mystery Man, a 2-part episode that begins with an accident that causes Banner to lose his memory and with a bandage over his burnt face, unknowingly joins Jack McGee in a cross-country venture to regain it No Escape, about another schizoid man suffering from hallucinations, who leaks to Banner his desire to kill his wife and his doctor The Quiet Room, about Banner working as an orderly in a psyhiatric institution when he gets too close to a doctors secret mind-control experiments The Confession, about a nerdy computer technician who witnesses Banners Hulk eruption and takes the story directly to the National Register, while claiming he is the Hulk, looking for attention and seeking fame and Vendetta Road, about an angry young man and his girlfriend seeking revenge upon a huge oil monopoly that has been buying up all the local gas-stations and forcing others out of business.

Of the 22 episodes, I liked 14. The other 8 were okay, but not the kind I like to revisit in reruns. This package also includes another excellent episode from season 3, Homecoming, where Banner returns to his hometown to visit his sister and father for Thanksgiving (and saves their farm).

Anyways, Im a big fan of the Incredible Hulk series and I look forward to the other seasons on Dvd asap. Great series!

This set has been re-issued. And included one ticket for the upcoming Incredible Hulk Movie. An $8.50 value. The ticket has expired 7-31-2008. And you missed it. I picked this up at Target for $19.99 plus tax. It doesnt matter if theres the yellow sticker that says FREE MOVIE TICKET TO SEE THE INCREDIBLE HULK. Because you missed it. The ticket is by far not the only reason to buy the set. In fact the series is better than the movie. This is one great tv show with outstanding episodes such as "Married" "Ricky" "A Child In Need" and "Mystery Man" Parts 1 and 2. These are just some of my favorites. A total of 22 episodes on five single sided discs. Thats single sided. Includes three bonus features. Commentary by Ken Johnson on Married" An introduction by Kenneth Johnson which is a seven minute retrospective of the series. And a season 3 episode. "Homecoming". The last bonus is not much of a bonus. Universal did the same thing with Knight Rider Season 3, which included a Season 4 episode. They seem to lack imagination when it comes to special features. With The Incredible Hulk Seasons 3 and 4 only days away, well have a lot to Hulk out with.

The Incredible Hulk second season is pretty good! I like the second season of the Incredible Hulk TV series. Bill Bixby is great as Dr. David Banner and Lou Ferrigno is great as the Incredible Hulk! After seeing some of theese episodes, I started to be upset because Bill Bixby is gone. He died in 1993 from prostate cancer. He was very talented. I dont think anyone could play Dr. David Banner Better than him. RIP Bill Bixby. Also thie Incredible Hulk TV show was done in the late 1970s. Many things in this DVD set reflect the 1970s era. Highly Recommended! A-
